CHS awarded 93 seniors their high school diplomas during graduation on Friday, May 19. Among those graduating, 21 students graduated with honors for maintaining a 4.0 average throughout high school.

Angie Evans was named the class of 2017 valedictorian. Evans received the prestigious Terry  Foundation Scholarship which includes a full ride to Texas A &M University.

“It still doesn’t seem real,” Evans said. “I was worried about having our graduation in the gym just because we are such a large class, but I actually enjoyed it. I was so nervous about my speech but I have a lot of awesome support from my family and friends. I cannot believe high school is really over. It doesn’t seem possible. When seniors tell you that the last year flies by no one ever believes them, but I feel like it was August yesterday.”

Salutatorian Grayland Jackson  plans on attending the University of Texas at Austin to major in engineering.

“My last year of high school was one to remember,” Jackson said. “As a senior, we accomplished a lot, and in my opinion, we left our mark as best we could. I would not have done anything differently.”
