If you have ever watched a Comanche High School volleyball game, then you know senior outside hitter MaCayla Courtney.

She is a team player, the focal point, and the team’s power house. Courtney also hopes to take her game to the collegiate level after she graduates in May.

“My goals are to work hard and be able to be an asset for any team for any college I go to,” Courtney said. “My preferred choice of college is Centenary in Louisiana. It has a great volleyball program. Its academic standards are also very high, so it will help prepare me for the real world.”

After visiting the Centenary campus Courtney said she was impressed with the head volleyball coach. She submitted her application for Centenary and hopes to hear if she will get to play there in the next few months.

“The coach is a great and supportive coach and will make sure you succeed as a student athlete,” Courtney said.

Courtney’s love for the game of volleyball started early.

“I started in 5th grade and have played ever since,” Courtney said.

For the last three years Courtney has been playing for a traveling club team in Fort Worth as well as for the high school’s team.

Courtney’s said her motivation derives from her biggest fan — her father.

“ My dad is a very encouraging person and pushes me to do my best all the time in volleyball,” she said. “My dad doesn’t just motivate me in volleyball but in every aspect of my life.”

Right now, you can find Courtney on the court doing her part to win titles for the Maidens who are coming off of last year’s season as bi-district champions.

“I look forward to being able to help lead my team,” she said. “Being a leader on the court is a great way to constantly uplift and encourage everyone on the team to play their best.”

Great story. I would like to see more like this: students doing well with definite plans for the future. Really neat!
