Freshman Colby Burch recently brought home the gold medal at the Special Olympics golf tournament in Abilene. The freshman has only been playing since June, but said he has put in a lot of time on the course.

“I had to swing at it and practice a lot to qualify,” Burch said.

Burch’s parents were present and helped him stay focused. His dad, Kevin was even his caddy.

“Having my parents there with me gave me some encouragement,” Burch said.

Burch went on to say that he is going to continue practicing and hopes to compete again and stay in golf for the rest of his high school career.
