The band and choir students participated at the annual UIL Solo and Ensemble contest in Stephenville on Saturday Feb. 9.

I was very pleased and proud with our solo & ensemble participation and results,” band director Brad Roberts said. “35 students and 24 events participated, the most I have ever had participate in my career.”

Results involved 16 division 1 “superior” ratings, four division 2 “excellent” ratings, and four division 3 “good” ratings.

“Everyone did great and was successful,” Roberts said. “14 students in seven events qualified for the State Solo & Ensemble contest.”

Students who qualified for state will compete in Austin in early June.

“Preparing and perfecting our music for contest took lots of planning and patience,” junior Carly Rodriguez said. “Juggling all the different organizations one is involved in can become time consuming, but my quartet’s hard work paid off and we will work hard to earn another division one rating at state.”

The students will take a short break before they begin practicing for state.

“I am excited to see how these students perform at state in early June,” Roberts said. “ I am very proud of all the students and their accomplishments.”
