The varsity Maidens earned a win in their first district game on the road against Hamilton on Mar. 5.

The Maidens’ offense and defense were on fire as they run-ruled the Lady Bulldogs 20-1 in just five innings.

It was team effort on the mound for the Maidens as sophomore Alize Lopez started the first two innings, junior Chloe Williams pitched the third and fourth, and senior reliever Kenna Hall pitched in the fifth. Together they recorded eight strikeouts , four walks and only gave up two hits.

For Lopez, it was her first time as a starting pitcher on varsity.

“I was nervous and walked the first batter,” Lopez said.

The second batter flied out to Lopez’s sister, Vicki, at shortstop, who then turned a double-play by throwing the ball to junior first baseman Chloe Williams. Alize then struck-out the next batter for the third out.

“I was very grateful for my sister’s and teammates’ help during the game,” Alize Lopez said “I was able to calm down because I knew my sister had my back.”

Next, the Maidens will take on Cisco at home on Mar. 8 at 4 pm.
