The Comanche powerlifting team competed in the Region 2 Division 3 championships on March 9.

Two seniors, Kendel Beck and Kade Mercer, will advance to the state meet in Abilene.

Kade Mercer (181 pound class) placed second and set a new personal record with a total of 1310 pounds.

“I am excited to be able to compete at the state meet for it has been one of my goals since I started competing as a sophomore,” Mercer said. “It feels good that all this hard work has paid off.”

Kendel Beck (275 pound class) placed first and set a new personal record with a total of 1710, also setting a new regional record in the deadlift with a lift of 635 pounds.

“I set the goal of lifting in the state meet a long time ago,” Beck said. “It feels good to make this dream come true. If all goes to plan, I will walk away with a state title.”

Jack Northridge (220 pound class) placed third and set a new personal record with a total of 1360 pounds.

Zach Foster (165 pound class) placed seventh and set a new personal record with a total of 1115 pounds.

Beck and Mercer will compete in the state meet on March 23 in Abilene at the Taylor County Expo Center.
