Two freshmen and their sponsor Eddy Parker recently traveled to Corpus Christi to participate in the Texas State Championships of SkillsUSA, an organization that helps and readies students to enter the workforce after graduation.

Freshman Elian Olvera and sophomore Ely Padilla competed in the automotive and diesel competitions.

“Ely and I took an online test about auto engine repair,” Olvera said. “We got the results back when we finished the test, but unfortunately we didn’t advance this year.”

The boys also toured college booths, as well as the many exhibits and various leadership training sessions.

“We are actually going this summer to Washington D.C. and a camp for leadership,” Padilla said. “SkillsUSA provides lots of learning experiences and it is also a lot of fun.”

The leadership camp will be held in June and will prepare the students for the duties of being a district officer next school year.
