This year the varsity Maidens basketball program looks to improve on last year’s season after placing last in district.

The team is returning seniors Macey Brawley and Victoria Lopez, as well as underclassmen Liliana Constancia, Alize Lopez, Megan Carter, and Hailey Lorta.

In addition, seniors Makayla Licea and Daniella Muniz and juniors Bailey Sanchez and Sharon Victoria will round out the varsity team.

“I feel like this upcoming season is going to be good, since we have a lot of returners,” Vicky Lopez said. “I feel like this year we have a lot more chemistry and we are all good on and off the court. We are a pretty strong team.”

Although the team’s district is very competitive this year, the biggest and toughest opponent will be Cisco.

“We are more experienced, and our team is more developed this year,” Alize Lopez said. “Our hope is to clench a spot in the playoffs.”

The Maidens are ready to get started and improve after a losing season last year.

“I’m excited to see the season rolling,” Coach Diana Salinas said. “Expect to see our girls working hard and getting after their opponents; it’s my favorite time of year!”
